How Did Soiree Kawaii Do in Colorado?

Soiree Kawaii catharanthus flourishes in the hot, humid climates of the South, but what about the cool, dry mountain states with a later season? It’s true these compact plants are slower for growers in the North and need warmer temperatures. Soiree likes high light, too.The best positioning is summer, when temperatures are warmer and days are longer.

All six Soiree Kawaii colors were trialed in beds and containers at Colorado State University. ‘Soiree Kawaii Coral’ received a “best of” annuals award in the vinca category. “Tiny coral colored flowers are bright and prolific, making an impressive display of color in either ground or containers,” the trials report says. “Plants stay compact all summer with no leggy branches.” We agree. Soiree Kawaii flowers are tiny, but terrific!

It didn’t perform as well in the landscape beds, though. Surfinia Sumo varieties have been best for in-ground plantings, as a true landscape petunia.
